This is the final episode in our Off Road Grit RV caravan build series, and this time the build is finished. We’ve now been living in this caravan for seven weeks, and rather than doing a final reveal sitting in a showroom or on a perfectly clean campsite, we wanted to actually use it first. Properly. We launched the van at the Ipswich Caravan Show and the very next day headed north, taking it all the way through the outback and into East Arnhem Land. We’ve dragged it along the 675km Central Arnhem Road through dust, dirt, corrugations and plenty of bulldust, giving the caravan a pretty serious first test. So this episode is not just a walkthrough of our finished caravan. It’s our honest review after seven weeks of actually living in it. We take you through the entire van inside and out, show you the finished layout and talk about what has worked, what we love, what we would change and how some of the completely new ideas we tried have performed in the real world. This caravan was a big change from anything we’ve owned before. We designed an entirely new layout around the way we actually live and travel, creating what we call a dual-living caravan. At one end we have our main living area with the club lounge and drop-down bed, and at the other we created a completely separate office, laundry and extra living space. That drop-down bed was a big one for us. We wanted the comfort of a proper bed without permanently giving up all that floor space, so now that we’ve lived with it for seven weeks, we can finally tell you what we actually think of it. We also put OGRV’s new lightweight composite joinery to the test. In the previous episodes you saw the joinery being developed, CNC cut, assembled and installed into our van, saving us 240kg across the caravan. Now, after thousands of kilometres and some seriously rough roads, we show you how it has held up and what we think of it after living with it every day. There were a lot of things we tried for the first time in this caravan, from the layout and cabinetry through to storage, appliances, our office setup, bathroom design and the way the different living spaces work together. Some things we knew would work. Others we hoped would work. Seven weeks later, we finally have some answers.
