Last time I promised to tell you what a clean farmhouse actually smells like, and why it is not anything out of a can. Here it is.
Eleven things in your house are holding onto a smell you stopped noticing years ago. Curtains that have never been washed. A pillow that has never dried out. The pad under the carpet. A bath mat that never leaves the floor. Towels folded twenty minutes too soon. And the thing you bought to fix all of it, which has been making it worse since the day you plugged it in.
I'm Loretta Granger. Forty-one years in a 1911 farmhouse in northeast Iowa, thirty-one years teaching fourth grade, and I wrote all of it down. My mother handled every one of these with a clothesline, a washboard, sunlight, and a screen door. I'll tell you what she did and the version you can do this week.
None of this is age. Nobody gets to blame the house.
Everything here is what worked in our farmhouse. Never mix bleach with vinegar or ammonia. This is home experience, not professional advice.
I read every comment. Tell me which of the eleven you found in your own house tonight, and whether you did the hallway breath.
