Jeff Stelling asks Marc White what Dorking Wanderers has cost him personally. The answer: he’d be a lot richer without it 😅 He’s given everything he’s got, he says - and admits he hasn’t been diligent about his own money. There has been, in his words, zero consideration for himself in any of it ❌ Asked whether he ever thinks about stopping, the reply comes straight back. Too late. I’m all in. He tells Jeff what the club actually started as: Division Five of the Crawley and District League, fifty quid a game to rent a council pitch, and players paying a fiver each for the privilege. The centre-forward couldn’t afford it so the rest covered him. The local pub bought the kit. White put the nets up and marked the pitch himself. Then a derelict field at the bottom of Box Hill with no power and no water, where they dug the trenches and built the changing rooms with the players, their families and a local timber company. First game there: 42 people. By the time they left, three games in a single week brought 9,000 through the gates. Now Dorking host the likes of Wrexham, Notts County and Hartlepool. The Welcome to Wrexham crew came down to film them.
