The luck from my ultimate Relic opening video (which you should really watch by the way) has been pleasantly persistent. I managed to quickly get Dark Lord and Double Exposure (which were I hadn't been able to get in that video), but it didn't stop there. I also managed to get my immediately get my hands on both of this month's new fighters; the Gold fighter Pillow Talk and Diamond fighter Dream Girl. And with an abundance of resources, grinding of Holodeck Hazards, and a borrowed move loadout, the latter is near battle ready. So that means, for the first time ever in this series, I get to present my own fighter; no waiting for luck with Recruitment nodes. You could say this is a dream come true. But is Dream Girl herself really a dream come true? Let's roll into the fog to find out! Dream Girl's Signature Ability, 'The Fog Rolls In...', is linked directly to her visual flair; which literally causes the stage to become foggy, the fog represented as a grey tint with an opacity cycle. As per the first part of the ability, this lasts for 12 seconds, and is generated whenever Dream Girl tags in, tags out, or starts the fight. While the stage is foggy, opponents are hit with permanent, unpreventable fatigue; while also being prevented to have any other buffs or debuffs and have their Blockbuster Meter drained. The second part builds on this, having their health drained whenever any active fighter is about to gain a buff or debuff provided the opponent is inflicted with Fatigue. Let's break it down. Right out of the box, the nature of the fog lets it be used by other members of your team. Which fighters work best with it remains to be seen; as while the fog shuts down a lot of fighters on defense by blocking buffs, preventing them from also gaining debuffs actually shuts down some fighters on offence, as their abilities rely on opponents being hit with specific debuffs to function. This can also shut down defensive fighters in niche cases, as their abilities rely on them being inflicted with debuffs; Fortune Cookie and Plot Twisted come to mind. Obviously, the fog converts these buffs and debuffs into the draining of opposing Blockbuster Meter, which is complementary at best and a worthwhile trade-off at worst. It is also not permanent, so offensive fighters at a disadvantage will eventually perform as usual once the fog lifts; and in scenarios where you want to keep an opponent on defense stuck in the grey, it can easily be made to roll in once again. The Fatigue found in the first part has the (currently) special property of being unpreventable, which consistently lets the second part trigger in the fog. This second part is far more flexible. In foggy environments, this further punishes opponents for trying to gain buffs or being given debuffs by draining their health. But this now extends to Dream Girl and her allies; they can gain buffs (or debuffs) to drain more health from the opponent, and opponents that inflict debuffs will be punished by getting their health drained. The fog, as previously mentioned, is already strong with its Blockbuster Meter draining, but now taking the health draining into consideration, it is clear to see why what I said about the fog before holds. But the flexibility of the second part doesn't stop with being able to trigger through both enemies and allies; since this second part is linked to Fatigue and not the fog itself, it can be activated in clear skies. There are handful of Signature Abilities, Special Moves, and Blockbusters that inflict Fatigue; while these aren't permanent or unpreventable, they can provide windows of opportunity. An interesting case is Dark Lord, who inflicts permanent Fatigue on herself; putting her at a serious disadvantage in foggy environments. A final, interesting note about the fog is that both its draining abilities have limits; the Blockbuster Meter draining can only drain ten percent five times per fog period, while the health draining can only drain two percent per fog period. Given its strength and versatility, I would say this is a fair restriction. Overall, in short, Dream Girl is powerful yet situational fighter; a good addition to any collection, especially if you can learn how to use her properly.
