The gold souk domes, the dhows loading, the call to prayer from the mosque above the spice souk. 🏘️ Morning — Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood: wind tower houses, coral-and-gypsum walls, the oldest building in Dubai. The passive air conditioning that still works. 🏙️ Midday — Burj Khalifa At the Top: 555 metres above sea level. The Palm Jumeirah visible from above. The city below. 🔍 THE STORIES YOU WON'T FIND ELSEWHERE: • The pearl diving industry that employed Dubai's entire male population collapsed in three years when Japan introduced cultured pearls in 1929. The wind tower houses of Al Fahidi are its physical memory. • The Burj Khalifa's foundation required 192 concrete piles driven 50 metres into the ground. Its concrete was poured at night — daytime heat prevented proper setting. The tower sways 1.5 metres at its peak in high winds. This is intentional. • Emirates Airlines was founded in 1985 with two leased aircraft and $10 million.
