Overnight Backpack in Pisgah National Forest- Sam’s Knob & Black Balsam Mountain

My first overnight trip in this part of North Carolina. I originally intended to start at the trailhead near Black Balsam Mountain but due to the Blue Ridge Parkway being closed early in the morning (not totally sure why), I had to make some adjustments. So I started on highway 216 on the MST and hiked towards Sam’s Knob. After making that summit I went over to Black Balsam and went up and over. I ended up camping between Black Balsam and Tennent Mountain. I hiked up to the summit of Tennent to catch the sunrise in the morning. Even though it wasn’t exactly what I had planned, it was still a great trip.
