Knit three together (k3tog) is a very fast double-decrease often used in lace patterns. It a right-leaning decrease, so in this video, I'm also going to show you three alternative ways of knitting this stitch:
Standard technique: Start by inserting your right needle into the first three stitches on your left needle from left to right. Just like a normal knit stitch.
And then, wrap the yarn around the needle counter-clockwise, pull through and drop the stitch.
If you have problems knitting this decrease, you can loosen up the individual loops a bit before you knit them. Also, sharp-pointed knitting needles will also help you a lot.
If you want a centered k3tog, like this, then you have to do the following.: Slip two stitches knitwise. Then knit one stitch. And pass the two slipped stitches over the knit stitch.
This decrease is often also called double center decrease.
And how about a left-leaning double decrease? Well, that’s possible as well. In this case, knit it like this.
Slip one. K2tog, And pass the slipped stitch over.
Take extra care when you slip the stitch so you don’t loosen it up too much. Otherwise, you decrease line might look a bit wonky.
There’s also an alternative right-leaning decrease which looks a bit different.
In this case, slip one, knit one, pass the slipped stitch over. Then slip the stitch to the left needle, and pass the next stitch over.
