Ibn Khaldun was a 14th-century North African Arab historiographer and historian. He is considered as one of the founding fathers of modern sociology and demography. His most famous work, the "Muqaddimah" serves as an introduction to a larger history of the world, and is considered a masterpiece in both the fields of history and sociology.
In the "Muqaddimah," Ibn Khaldun sets forth his theory of social change, in which he argues that the rise and fall of civilizations is a cyclical process. He also developed several other important concepts, including the idea of group solidarity, the role of economics in shaping society, and the influence of the environment on human society.
Ibn Khaldun's ideas were ahead of his time and influenced many later thinkers, including European Enlightenment philosophers. His work remains widely read and studied today, and continues to be a major source of inspiration for scholars in a variety of fields.
