Her family was named Ford, but they had nothing to do with the automobile company, and the fortune that built Stonehurst came from plate glass and Michigan salt rather than cars. Three of her siblings built palaces on the same stretch of lakefront, and within weeks of her death in 1974 the last of the four was stripped, auctioned and demolished. Everything the family built in Michigan is gone, except a stone wall, a town house that now serves a different community entirely, and twenty six thousand acres in Georgia that one granddaughter chose to give away.
