'Heckerlied' | A German revolutionary song

The Heckerlied is a revolutionary song of the Baden Revolution of 1848/1849, when Friedrich Hecker tried to rally the revolutionaries in Baden with the Hecker procession from Constance in order to take over the residential city of Karlsruhe and then depose the Grand Ducal government. After this uprising was crushed by Prussian and Hessian troops in the Battle of the Scheideck on 20 April 1848, Hecker had to flee to Switzerland with most of the participants. He did not return to Baden, but emigrated permanently to the United States.
