In December 2004, Kenyan police seized more than a ton of cocaine in Nairobi and Malindi, the largest haul ever recorded in Africa according to the American Embassy. Fifteen months later the government burned it in public. In between: a raid that KTN’s Jicho Pevu reported had been leaked by a senior officer, a GSU superintendent shot dead at his home by police, a Director of Public Prosecutions dismissed without a reason, two “Armenian investors” carrying papers that gave them police ranks, one man convicted, twelve acquitted, and a prime suspect Kenya never got back.
