Fr Andrew Kooi and Dr Cecilia Chan talk about the importance of supporting our 'Elderly' community

In conjunction with the 6th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly on Sunday 26 July 2026, we speak with Dr Cecilia Chan (Gerontologist(PhD), Dementia Advocate & Activist) and Fr Andrew Kooi (Parish Priest of the Church of the Holy Redeemer in Klang, Ecclesiastical Assistant for Arch KL’s Family Life Ministry) on the importance of supporting our 'Elderly' community. The theme chosen by Pope Leo XIV for the 6th World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly – “I will never forget you” (Is 49:15) – reminds us that God’s unwavering love is the ultimate answer to the isolation and neglect so often experienced by the elderly. We speak about the fears and challenges that the elderly go through, as well as how the church reaches out to the 'Golden' generation. May we truly value the elderly, not through occasional gestures, but as a permanent, central part of our lives.
