How to Pretend is a song I discovered a few months ago, at a weirdly fitting time in my life. I had just gone through my first heartbreak (I will get into this more in a minute) and felt a connection to the song that resonated a lot with me, and was something that felt oddly relatable to me (Thank you Lucy for being the GOAT). I had the thought in the back of my head to use it for a Geometry Dash level for months, but never really considered it too heavily until I saw How to Pretend by 64x and Maxxormen (awesome level by the way). It gave me inspiration to start my own level using the song (and inspired some of the level), and I felt I wanted to use the whole song, since it's one that means a lot to me. Experiencing heartbreak for the first time is a pain that I've never really felt anything like. There's a feeling that stuck with me for a while, like the pain and feeling like I missed out on my only opportunity that I thought would stick with me forever. During this time, I found solace in art and nature, oftentimes getting my head away from my problems by going out exploring, drawing, or building GD levels. During this time, I would make small demos to try and get my emotions out, which is where this level spawned from. A lot of the origins of these parts came from these demos when I was ruined by heartbreak, and I thought this song would be a perfect way to express them in one complete work. I started this level months after this happened, and I think it creates a bit of an interesting inner reflection. This level mixes what I felt during a time when I felt I would never feel love again, and what I feel now months later having healed from it. I usually don't like to be too direct with how I theme my levels, but this is one that I think deserved an explanation because of how personal it is to me, and to give some context as to where not only the level spawned from, but also the individual parts. Thank you to everyone who stuck with me through this. This is by far my longest level, and easily one of the biggest levels I have ever created. I ended up spending over 109 hours on this, being my 3rd level to pass the 100 hour mark, and nearly a minute longer than my second longest level. Also, special thanks to some certain people: Viiau, Nau, Kivixi, and Tro5. You guys helped me so much during the building process of this level, and I appreciate you guys so much.
