How I Actually Start Web Design Projects (Step by Step)

Most people assume web design starts with visuals; layouts; or tools like Figma. In reality; strong web design starts much earlier; before any UI decisions are made. In this video; I walk through how I personally start web design projects; showing the early steps that shape everything that comes after; from structure; to layout; to final decisions. You will see how I approach understanding the problem space; how I analyze patterns; how I evaluate existing solutions; and how those insights directly influence design choices. This is not a theoretical explanation; it is a real workflow; shown step by step. If you are a designer struggling to explain your decisions; if your designs feel inconsistent; or if your work looks good but lacks clarity; this missing step in the web design process is often the reason. This video is especially useful for; • web designers • UI designers • UX designers • product designers • designers transitioning from visual to systems thinking The goal is to help you design with intention; confidence; and reasoning; not just taste.
