The 11 km Wall Dubai Built to Shield Palm Jumeirah From the Sea

Palm Jumeirah is a reclaimed island off Dubai, built from sand dredged from the Gulf floor and a rock wall about 11 kilometers long. This video follows the sand, the rock and the vibro-compaction used to pack the fill. It then sets out the settling figures that have been published: a 2009 survey's average of about 5 millimeters a year, the developer's design maximum of 25 millimeters over a century, and a Dubai Municipality monitoring system reported in 2018 that does not publish a rate.
