Why are frog legs served in restaurants while some frogs carry toxins powerful enough to disrupt the human heart? The answer involves much more than bright colors.
In this video, we compare edible frogs with poisonous frogs and explore skin toxins, warning coloration, batrachotoxin, cane toads, and poison dart frogs. You’ll also learn how some frogs collect defensive chemicals from ants and mites, why captive frogs can lose much of their toxicity, and why cooking cannot make an unknown wild frog safe to eat.
We also examine the difference between poison and venom, along with foodborne risks such as Salmonella and parasites. When it comes to frogs, appearance alone is never a reliable safety test.
