While returning from Yathrib to Mecca, his beloved mother, Amina, became ill and passed away at Al-Abwa. Already born without his father, the young Muhammad ﷺ was now without both parents. But his journey was far from over. His grandfather, Abd al-Muttalib, welcomed him into his care, providing affection, security and protection. Traditional Seerah accounts describe the special love his grandfather showed him, including allowing him to sit in his honoured place near the Kaaba. Yet around the age of eight, another loss followed when his grandfather passed away. His uncle, Abu Talib, then took responsibility for raising him.
