What is the Church becoming known for? Jesus said His disciples would be recognized by their love for one another (John 13:34–35). But in a culture increasingly marked by division, argument, public criticism, judgment, and constant disagreement, the Church has to ask an uncomfortable question: Is love still what people see when they look at us? In this episode of Recovered By Christ, we examine the identity of the Church in America and the way Christians are representing Jesus to one another and to the world. This is not an argument against biblical truth, discernment, correction, holiness, or sound doctrine. Scripture calls believers to all of those things. But Scripture also makes love central to Christian discipleship. The question is whether we have become so focused on winning arguments, exposing error, correcting other believers, defending our positions, and identifying what everyone else is doing wrong that we have forgotten the identifying characteristic Jesus gave His Church. What happens when Christians become better known for what they oppose than for how they love? What happens when disagreement becomes more visible than grace? And what does it mean for the witness of the Church when people can hear our convictions clearly but struggle to recognize the character of Christ in the way we express them? This conversation explores Christian love, church culture, judgment, division, correction, spiritual maturity, biblical discipleship, church unity, Christian relationships, and what it actually means to represent Jesus in a divided culture. The goal is not to weaken conviction. It is to recover the way conviction is carried. Because according to Jesus, love was never supposed to be an optional characteristic of His people. It was supposed to be one of the clearest ways the world recognized us. “By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” — John 13:35 If you care about the future of the Church, Christian culture, biblical discipleship, spiritual maturity, church unity, and faithfully representing Jesus Christ in the world, this conversation is for you.
