10 Aztec Battles So Brutal the Spanish Thought They Found Hell

#AztecEmpire #AztecHistory #Mesoamerica Did you know that when the Aztecs finally destroyed their old overlord Azcapotzalco in 1428, their ally personally cut open the defeated king's chest and tore out his heart — using the exact ritual that king's own priests had performed for a century? Or that at a single temple dedication in 1487, Spanish sources claim 20,000 prisoners were sacrificed in just four days on one pyramid? Between 1428 and 1521, the Aztec Triple Alliance rose from a colony of snake-island refugees into the most feared war machine in the Americas — and then died on a smoking causeway in a single summer. This is a countdown of the 10 most brutal and important Aztec battles ever fought: the founding wound at Azcapotzalco, a king thrown from his own pyramid, the "flower wars" fought purely to harvest captives, the 900-mile marches, the massacre at Cholula, and the last stand of a boy emperor named Cuauhtémoc who asked only for a clean blade. What the codices actually recorded, what the Spanish witnessed with their own eyes, and what modern archaeology has confirmed. ⏱ TIMESTAMPS 0:00 — No. 10 The War Of Azcapotzalco 4:12 — No. 9 Conquest Of Tlatelolco 9:07 — No. 8 Taximaroa The Hidden Shame 13:40 — No. 7 The Flower Wars 18:10 — No. 6 The Temple Dedication Slaughter 23:10 — No. 5 Ahuitzotl's Long March 28:13 — No. 4 Moctezuma's Coronation War 33:30 — No. 3 The Massacre At Cholula 39:35 — No. 2 Siege Of Tenochtitlan 46:30 — No. 1 Last Stand Of Cuauhtémoc 54:33 — Which Battle Surprised You Most 🔔 Subscribe for more forgotten history and ancient battles that never made it into your school textbook.
