My brother Ben and I decided to hit some basic rapids for the first time. We loaded our packs and canoe onto a train and traveled north from Sudbury for 2 hours, getting off at Sinker Creek – a wilderness stop along the Spanish River, several kilometers above the Forks where the East and West branches of the river meet.
For the next four days, we paddled our way south down the river over 70kms to reach our destination at The Elbow. Along the way, we encountered many swifts and mostly Class I rapids – a perfect route to dip our toes into whitewater.
