We watched THE GODFATHER PART II (1974) right after the first one and this might actually be better than the original 👑 200 minutes that absolutely flew by. This film is two movies in one — we get the young Vito origin story with Robert De Niro giving a masterclass performance, and simultaneously we watch Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) systematically lose what's left of his soul. The dual narrative structure is genius, the scale of it all is overwhelming, and by the end Michael has become something completely hollow. This is why it won Best Picture when it's a sequel. Coppola didn't just match the original, he somehow exceeded it. Is it better than the first?
