Hello folks! This was one of the those flights where I would have been holding onto the armrests for dear life if I had been a passenger on board! This 17-minute video is largely un-edited and was captured, as it was flown, during a very stormy approach and landing into Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The flight being operated was the Ethiopian Airlines 801 service from Addis Abbaba. The aircraft is a Boeing 737-700. This was one of the scariest flights I have done, thanks in no small part to the realism of the weather I encountered as I approached the airport. I did seriously consider diverting to my alternate airport (Kisumi - HKKI) at one point. However, I had enough fuel for a 30-minute hold and two attempts at a landing before I needed to divert. There is a lot of lightening, thunder and volumous clouds that shook the aircraft all over the place during much of the 14-minute approach! The appearance of a large hill some 3 minutes 14 seconds into the film, when there should not have been anything that close, was the really worrying part. In the end, despite being above the Sector Safe Altitude (SSA) where I should not have been near any obstructions, I decided to turn right 25 degrees to avoid the hill and descend along it's western slope before turning left onto baseleg for the runway. I use FSGenesis Terrain Mesh and this hill could have been an anomaly thrown up by this mesh. In any event, I managed to avoid it and continue the descent. On the final approach to runway 06, I took manual control at 10 minutes and 52 seconds, as I had the runway in sight and I wanted full control during the most critical part of the landing. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it! The Simulation is FS2004: A Century Of Flight (FS9). The weather is generated by Active Sky Evolution (ASE) from HiFiSim. The aircraft is the IFly 737-700 in Ethiopian livery. The scenery is the payware Nairobi 2004 by OrientalSim available from Simmarket.com. Video was captured with FRAPS and encoded using Avidemux 2.5 Thanks for watching.
