The Leadville, Colorado and Southern rail yard was originally owned by Colorado and Southern and operated by their subsidiary the Denver, South Park and Pacific. This rail yard marked the endpoint of their "High Line" which traveled from Denver through South Park, over Boreas Pass, through Breckenridge, and then over Fremont Pass to Leadville. Colorado and Southern was eventually acquired by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy. During the height of the silver boom Leadville was home to three railroads, the Denver and Rio Grand, the Colorado and Midland, and the Denver South Park and Pacific. Both the Colorado and Midland, and the Denver South Park and Pacific ceased operating in Leadville in the early 1900s, while DR&G's successor Union Pacific maintains tracks through Leadville. The former DSP&P track is now owned by the LC&S who operate excursion trains over it.
