👽 You’ve barely scratched the surface of sci-fi. Discover 1,500+ hidden gems, cult classics & forgotten movies most fans never find 👉 https://scifigraveyard.com Most Western sci-fi movie lists stop at Godzilla, Akira, and Ghost in the Shell. This one doesn’t. I went digging through seventy years of Japanese science fiction and pulled out twelve films that were huge in Japan, butchered overseas, buried by distributors, or just never given a real shot in the West. So this list runs from benevolent one-eyed starfish in Warning from Space to the sealed, still-unreleased chaos of Prophecies of Nostradamus, all the way to Angel’s Egg finally getting its due decades later. Along the way there’s Sakyo Komatsu breaking the genre three separate times, Roger Corman carving Japan Sinks into something unrecognizable, DreamWorks quietly suffocating Casshern, and one of the most expensive Japanese films ever made getting edited to be less Japanese. Some of these are strange, some are furious, some are gorgeous, and a few are better than the films that replaced them in the Western canon. If you’ve ever wondered how entire corners of film history just vanish, this is the trail. Films covered: Warning from Space (1956) Message from Space (1978) Gunhed (1989) Casshern (2004) Goke, Body Snatcher from Hell (1968) Japan Sinks (1973) Sayonara Jupiter (1984) Virus (1980) Matango (1963) The Face of Another (1966) Prophecies of Nostradamus (1974) Angel's Egg (1985) How many of these had you actually heard of, and which one are you watching tonight? #JapaneseSciFi #SciFiMovies #JapaneseCinema
