About 200 million years ago, the supercontinent Pangea broke apart and made the world map we know. But the pieces never stopped moving: the Atlantic still widens about 2.5 cm a year, and Australia drifts north about 7 cm a year. So what happens if we fast-forward Earth by 250 million years? Ifo and his robot companion IF-0 stop at six points in the future, measuring as they go. First, the simple maths: Los Angeles slides toward San Francisco, Africa pushes into Europe, and Australia docks with Asia. Then the Atlantic may reach its widest, while a subduction zone at Gibraltar may start to close it. Scientists have four rival maps for the next supercontinent: Pangea Ultima, Novopangea, Aurica and Amasia. By the last stop, every continent is one again, under a Sun about 2.5% brighter. Its heart would be a giant hot desert, and its coasts the best seats on the planet. 0:00 Intro 1:01 The rules 2:21 +10 million years (Australia +700 km): The slow race begins 4:17 +50 million years (Africa +500 km): The Mediterranean gets squeezed 6:17 +100 million years (Atlantic +2,500 km): The widest Atlantic 8:38 +150 million years (4 rival maps): Which supercontinent? 11:11 +200 million years (1 super-ocean): Mountains at every seam 13:23 +250 million years (Sun +2.5%): The hot heart of Pangea Ultima 15:44 +250 million years, at sunset (1 continent): On the coast of the new Pangea 16:43 What you now know 17:09 Planet verdict 17:21 Next episode This video is a hypothetical thought experiment made for entertainment purposes only.
