Shelly is a real-life, long-time close friend of LP. Just like LP, Shelly is originally from New York, which makes their bond and the personal dynamic in the song incredibly authentic. The song was created entirely by accident in the studio. While LP was working with producers Mike Del Rio and PJ Bianco, Shelly called LP's phone to catch Right after she hung up, Mike turned and asked, "So, how's Shelly doing?" Laura burst into a smile and blurted out what became the track's signature lyrics: "Shelly got someone, he's younger and Colombian! The Album title goes beyond just a physical room. For LP, the number 12 symbolizes the completion of a life cycle (like the 12 months of a year or the 12 zodiac signs). This album was intentionally designed as a tool to close old, painful chapters and cleanse their energy for a "new era."
