An autobiographical story of Joe’s recounting of his mother and stepfather who are retired and living in Florida. The show is focused primarily on Joe’s stepfather, Freddy, with a story about Conrad, Freddy’s friend, who develops a condition leading to his institutionalization. Then Freddy receives an alarming diagnosis of melanoma which leads to Freddy’s passing. Joe makes a pact with God as a desperate measure to save Freddy. Anecdotal stories of his step-father’s gaffes and frugality, and the suffering they cause Joe’s mother. The progressive brain shrinkage of an admired friend, Conrad, which leads to his commitment in an asylum, is recounted, as well as Joe’s adopted father’s own illness, surgery and passing. This show was written, produced and narrated by Joe Frank in 1991 from the series: Somewhere Out There. This is the remixed version which has slight revisions to the original version: “A Pact with God,” which was produced in 1987 for the series: Work in Progress. (Joe revisited later this show and changed some stories to produce “On the Edge, Remix” released for The Other Side in 1999)
