“External perception matters now, even if it’s beyond our control.” System met Lucien Pagès, Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag to talk about how fashion communication has changed — from the authority of traditional criticism to a landscape shaped by instant reaction, visibility metrics and the constant noise of social media. They reflect on the tension between craft and speed, the growing pressure on both designers and critics, and the evolving role of image-making at a time when anyone can shape perception. Throughout the conversation, they draw on their decades at the centre of the industry, discussing the evolution of fashion week and its accelerated transformation after last year’s historic number of creative director changes. With a new season of European shows about to begin in London and end in Paris, they ponder how to hold on to reflection, precision and real dialogue in a system increasingly driven as much by corporate logic as by creativity.
