Baofeng Temple on Xiqiao Mountain: A Southern Cantonese Monastery Reborn｜佛山宝峰寺：西樵山上的南粤名刹

Filmed on: October 16, 2026 Location: Baofeng Temple, Xiqiao Mountain Scenic Area, Nanhai District, Foshan, Guangdong, China Baofeng Temple is one of the four great monasteries of Guangdong, first built in 1404 during the Ming dynasty and rebuilt on its present site at Shegang, on Xiqiao Mountain. The temple covers 21,600 square metres and follows the original Ming architectural layout, with a central axis of mountain gate, Mahavira Hall and Dharma Hall, flanked by bell and drum towers, Guanyin Hall, Manjusri Hall and Samantabhadra Hall. At the summit stands the bronze Nanhai Guanyin seated statue, completed in 1998 and reaching 61.9 metres — the tallest seated Guanyin statue in the world. The climb to the summit passes 283 stone steps and opens views across the Pearl River Delta. This walk moves through the temple courtyards and continues up the mountain path to the Guanyin platform, capturing the scale of the complex and the landscape it sits within.
