ABOUT THE STORY
"The Red-Headed League" (1891) is the second story in The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, and one of Arthur Conan Doyle's own favourites. Jabez Wilson answers a strange newspaper advertisement and is chosen by the Red-Headed League for an easy, well-paid job: copying the encyclopaedia, every day from ten to two. When the League suddenly disappears, Holmes calls it "a three pipe problem", walks around Saxe-Coburg Square, taps the pavement with his stick, and sets a trap for one of the most daring criminals in London.
