🌫️ When haze arrives, does your team understand what the air-quality readings mean?
PM2.5 refers to fine particles generally 2.5 micrometres or smaller in diameter. During haze episodes, understanding these particles and the reported readings helps us make better decisions about outdoor work.
This presentation explains:
🔹 What PM2.5 is and where it comes from.
🔹 How smoke travels across borders, affecting Singapore, Malaysia and the wider ASEAN region.
🔹 Why PM2.5 concentration, Singapore’s PSI and Malaysia’s API/IPU are different measurements.
🔹 What to consider when reviewing workplace exposure and haze precautions.
One key point: *PM2.5 at 100 µg/m³ does not mean PSI 100 or API 100.* The location, timestamp and averaging period matter when interpreting a reading.
For WSH teams, the practical question is: *How will this information change today’s work arrangements?*
Use the slides for a toolbox discussion. Ask your team who monitors official updates, how changes are communicated and who decides when work arrangements need reviewing.
