What if the central event in biblical prophecy is not the event most Christians have been taught to look for?
We talk about the rapture, debate the tribulation, speculate about the Antichrist, and build timelines around the end times. But from the Hebrew prophets through Jesus, Paul, Peter, and Revelation, Scripture repeatedly directs our attention to something called the Day of the LORD.
In this episode of the Rooted Ground Podcast, we begin a new three-part arc within the Taking Hold of the Plow series. We trace the Day of the LORD through Amos, Isaiah, Joel, Zephaniah, Zechariah, and Malachi to recover the prophetic foundation behind the New Testament's teaching about the return of Jesus.
Is the Day a single twenty-four-hour period? Why did Amos call it "darkness, and not light"? How can the same Day bring judgment to the rebellious and deliverance to those who call upon the Lord? And have modern end-times systems placed more emphasis on escape than Scripture places on the return and reign of the King?
This episode examines:
• The Hebrew meaning of yom YHWH
• Historical judgments as patterns of the final Day
• The Day as both judgment and salvation
• The trumpet, darkness, fire, and cosmic signs of the prophets
• The LORD as Divine Warrior and King
• Why biblical prophecy calls believers to repentance, endurance, holiness, and faithful witness
• How the prophetic Day prepares us to understand Matthew 24, 1 Thessalonians 4-5, 2 Thessalonians 2, 2 Peter 3, and Revelation
The Day of the LORD is not merely the day the world ends. It is the Day the King confronts everything that has corrupted His world and openly establishes His righteous rule.
Before we decide where the Church is during the end times, perhaps we first need to understand the Day around which the biblical story is organized.
Open your Bible. Follow the passages. Test the argument. Let Scripture interpret Scripture.
