Early roll out for ETNZ ahead of a building westerly, with starts and race simulations on the menu. Emirates Team New Zealand out sailing off Auckland’s Northern Beaches on Thursday, with Nathan Outteridge, Seb Menzies, Iain Jensen, Andy Maloney, Josh Armit and Jo Aleh aboard. Pushing off the dock at 1003, the team towed further up the coast than usual to get ahead of the forecast stronger south-westerly. After coming off the tow at 1033, ETNZ hoisted their M2-1 and J3-1, beginning the first session at 1053 in gusty, shifty offshore breeze. The morning focused on short laps around virtual marks, speed runs and race-day simulation work, with the crew towing onto the foils rather than sailing up as they have done in recent sessions. Later sessions featured practice starts, rolling pre-starts and several practice races against Chase One, before the breeze built and ETNZ changed to their J5-0. The final sail took the boat downwind into the outer harbour before returning towards Narrow Neck Beach, with the team back at the dock at 1550.
