Manipur is burning again, but this time the national media and political parties have gone quiet. Why?
When Meiteis and Kukis clashed in 2023, it became a Hindu vs Christian story. Parliament debated it, the Opposition moved a no-confidence motion, and TV studios covered it every night. Since February 2026, a new war has broken out in Manipur’s hills: Kukis vs Nagas. Both communities are tribal and both are Christian. There is no religious binary and no vote-bank angle, so there is no outrage.
On 9–10 October, nine people were killed across Kamjong, Ukhrul and Kangpokpi. A Naga village guard was beheaded, and a video allegedly showing armed men with his severed head went viral. The Joint Tribes Council Manipur has now given the Centre and the state government 48 hours to return his head. More than 50 people have been killed in Kuki–Naga violence since February, yet this war barely makes the headlines.
In this video, Kinjal Choudhary covers:
🔹 The latest killings and the 48-hour ultimatum
🔹 How the Meitei vs Kuki conflict was turned into a Hindu vs Christian political battle
🔹 Kuki vs Naga: the Christian vs Christian war nobody is talking about
🔹 Why media and political parties have gone silent
🔹 The real dispute: land, roads, rival homeland maps and broken peace deals
🔹 Manipur’s demography explained: who lives where (Meitei, Naga, Kuki-Zo)
🔹 History of conflict: from the British era to the 1990s Naga–Kuki war
🔹 Drug money, Myanmar, the China angle and 6,000 looted weapons
🔹 What this means for India’s national security
Manipur’s fault lines are not just about religion. They are about land, territory and guns, and India cannot afford to ignore that.
