The latest from the *Mamta Kafle Bhatt* murder trial. On Day 11, jurors heard from the babysitter who cared for Naresh and Mamta Bhatt's infant daughter in the days around Mamta's disappearance. This is her full testimony, from the trial of Naresh Bhatt, accused of killing his wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt, in their Manassas Park, Virginia home.
Testifying in Spanish through a court interpreter, the babysitter described watching 11-month-old Nima on July 8, 9 and 12, 2024 — when, she said, Mamta texted all day to ask how her daughter was doing and sent freshly made food, clean clothes and milk. She testified that the father, by contrast, never once texted to check on the baby over those days. Then she walked the jury through July 30 to August 2 — the days the state alleges Mamta was already gone — when she dealt only with Naresh: an early-morning handoff on July 30, two occasions she said he came into her apartment uninvited and seemed "nervous" and "alarmed," the baby arriving unbathed with uncombed hair and the same food as the day before, a final cash payment beside a blue Tesla, and a standing request that she stay available to babysit through August 22. On cross-examination, the defense emphasized that she never met Mamta in person, never told Naresh not to come inside, and kept texting him to arrange the next day.
This is one witness's account, presented as it was given to the jury. Her descriptions are her own; nothing here is a finding of fact. What any of it means is for the jury to weigh.
Mamta Kafle Bhatt, a 28-year-old nurse and new mother, was last seen in late July 2024 and has never been found.
