Worried about losing your Medicaid in 2027? In this live lesson (lesson 3 of the Medicaid course), Dr. Ed Weir walks through how to keep your Medicaid coverage when your recertification letter arrives. He explains why the renewal process is so hard to get through: it is complicated, offices are overloaded, and paperwork gets lost. He also explains why a missed deadline can leave you without coverage for a month, with trouble getting prescriptions or seeing your doctor.
The lesson starts with the basics. Many people don't realize they have Medicaid because their state gives it another name, such as Health First Colorado, MaineCare or Healthy Louisiana. Dr. Ed then explains the different levels of coverage (QMB, SLMB, QI and cost sharing) and why you need to know which one you're on before you call anyone. Next he covers the Medicare Savings Program, which may help pay your Medicare Part B premium (the $202.90 he cites). He also covers who has to meet the new work and volunteer rules (generally ages 19 to 64, with people 65 and older exempt) and what the medically frail exemption may mean for you. He warns that some adults may have to renew every six months, and that cuts to the program could mean fewer services in 2027, such as home health care and transportation. He asks viewers who have already been through recertification in their state to share what worked in the comments.
This is general education, not advice on any one plan, and rules vary by state.
