RAHUL GANDHI’S RALLY: DID DELHI’S CONNAUGHT PLACE REALLY SHUT DOWN? By Shayan and Niraj Pandey A massive INDIA bloc rally brought Delhi’s political battle to Ramlila Maidan. But another battle was unfolding around Connaught Place. The BJP alleged that the protest disrupted businesses. Rahul Gandhi accused BJP workers of forcing shops to close. We went to the ground to check what actually happened. 👉🏽 THE CRUCIAL QUESTION: Was Connaught Place paying the price for a political protest, or was the disruption itself becoming another political battleground? —— VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS: 🔹 BJP’s business disruption allegation 🔹 Rahul Gandhi counters with shop closures 🔹 Shoppers reveal a different picture 🔹 Political claims meet ground reality —— [02:10] THE REALITY CHECK BEGINS Hours after the INDIA bloc rally, The Red Mike’s Saurabh Shukla heads to Connaught Place. The assignment is straightforward. Check the claims, speak to traders, meet shoppers and find out whether the rally actually disrupted business. What emerges is not a simple political narrative. “बहुत मुश्किल हो रहा था यहां आने के लिए क्योंकि इनका रैली चल रहा था।” [05:35] —— [10:19] SHOPPERS ARE NOT CONVINCED Two young IT professionals are out buying winter jackets. Their assessment challenges the suggestion that the entire market has been paralysed. Shops are open. Shopping continues. But they also question whether the prolonged protest has lost its original purpose. “बट ये प्रोटेस्ट भी एक टाइम के लिए सही था। बट अब ये प्रोटेस्ट थोड़ा मजाक पे बदल गया है।” [10:19] —— [12:32] BUSINESS AS USUAL? The camera moves through the market. Another shopper backs up the observation. The shops are open, and the market does not look like a place brought to a standstill. But does that settle the question of business losses? Not necessarily. A functioning market does not automatically mean zero disruption. “शॉप वगैरह तो सारा ओपन है लाइक सारी चीजें सही तरीके से चल रही हैं।” [12:32] —— [16:44] CONGRESS HAS A COUNTER-CLAIM Former Madhya Pradesh minister Sajjan Verma offers a sharply different account. He alleges that traders and business organisations faced pressure to keep shops shut. His argument is that the political narrative of business losses was being manufactured. But this remains a political allegation, not independently established evidence. “कई दुकानें खुली हैं। कई दुकानें बंद हैं। ये दबाव डाला गया कि आप कई दुकानदारों पे कि आप भी दुकानें आज मत खोलिए। ताकि लॉस बड़ा लॉस दिख सके।” [16:44] —— [21:48] THE FINAL VERDICT IS NOT SIMPLE The ground report ends with another visitor’s assessment. The market looked largely familiar, although the crowd appeared somewhat thinner. Between political accusations, individual experiences and competing claims, one conclusion stands out: the reality on the ground is more complicated than either side’s headline. “हमें ऐसा कुछ नहीं लगा और मार्केट मतलब प्रीटी सेम है। थोड़ा क्राउड कम है बट इट्स ओके।” [21:48] —— ♦️Political narratives demand clear winners.
