Iron Man '60 Polka on Zupan Button Accordion - Alex Meixner

Iron Man '60 was composed by my father, Al Meixner, in dedication to Philadelphia Eagles football legend, Chuck Bednarik. As rough and tough as Chuck was on the football field, he loved to go out to polka dances and play pretty waltzes and ballads on his accordion or harmonica for his wife Emma. This tune was originally recorded on my father's album "From Here and Abroad" in 1976, the year I was born. I've always enjoyed some of the unique motions (especially the dramatic chromatic opening) and the rhythmic variations in the second section. These structures are definitely in the vein of the American Slovenian, Cleveland style. Still, some of the runs in the first section are intended to be a bit closer to the aesthetic of Ottavio Brajko from Slovenia, at least to my ear.
