• Our journey to Venice began with a flight from Los Angeles, arriving the following day and setting out to discover one of the world’s most captivating cities. From the port city of Chioggia, our adventure continued with a scenic 90-minute boat ride across the Venetian Lagoon. • As we approached Venice, the city slowly emerged from the water—a timeless panorama of domes, towers, historic buildings and waterways that has captivated travelers for centuries. • Arriving in Venice, we began our walking tour, winding through a fascinating maze of narrow alleyways, quiet passages, picturesque canals and charming bridges. And everywhere we looked, there were reminders that Venice is a city built on water. Gondolas glided quietly along the canals, their distinctive black hulls and graceful curves adding an unmistakable touch of romance to the Venetian landscape. We watched as gondoliers skillfully guided their boats beneath bridges and along waterways that have carried travelers through Venice for centuries. • Our sightseeing included the magnificent Ducal Palace, once the center of Venetian political power, and St. Mark’s Square, the grand gathering place at the heart of the city. Here, we admired the magnificent St. Mark’s Basilica, with its distinctive domes and ornate façade, before continuing our exploration along the legendary Grand Canal, Venice’s main waterway. • The Grand Canal was alive with activity, from traditional gondolas and water taxis to boats carrying locals and visitors through the heart of the city. Along its banks stood magnificent historic palaces, creating a spectacular scene that could only be Venice. But some of the most memorable moments came as we wandered away from the busy tourist routes. • We discovered the quieter side of Venice—peaceful canals in the Dorsoduro district, secluded corners, and narrow Venetian alleyways where everyday life seemed to unfold at a slower pace. • We also explored the charming Campiello del Spezier and Campiello de la Fraterna, tucked away in the Castello district. These small Venetian squares offered glimpses of the city’s intimate character, far removed from the crowds of St. Mark’s Square. • Along the way, we even came across a traditional Venetian drinking-water fountain—a small reminder of the many details and unexpected discoveries that make exploring Venice on foot so rewarding. • Our journey eventually brought us back to St. Mark’s Square, where our walking tour came to an end. • As we left Venice and headed back to our ship, we watched the city recede into the distance, with gondolas and boats moving gracefully across the shimmering lagoon. • Venice had given us only a glimpse of its timeless beauty—a city of waterways and bridges, grand palaces and hidden alleyways, where gondolas glide through centuries-old canals and history seems to surround you at every turn. • It was a glimpse we would not soon forget.
