A three way camera test with the TZ60 (ZS40), the TZ30 (ZS20) and the FZ200 bridge camera. Outdoor in bright light it was only possible to test up to ISO 800 as the shutter speeds on the compacts don't go above 1/2000 sec. Indoors where the light could be controlled I extended the iso test.
With the TZ30 having 14.1 megapixel, the FZ200 12 megapixel and the new TZ60 having 18 megapixel conventional wisdom would favor the larger pixel FZ200 for lower ISO noise and the TZ60 for resolution (if the lens matched the sensor)
I leave the final conclusions up to you, though on balance the TZ60 does tend to blur fine detail at higher iso's but its x30 zoom does have some advantages. I believe the image quality is superior to the TZ40 previous model but may not match the TZ30 earlier model. So the question remains as to Panasonics logic in progressing with higher pixel count compact cameras.
