Glenn Gould plays Haydn in Stockholm

Haydn: Sonata in E-flat Hob.XVI/49. Glenn Gould visited Stockholm once, playing two concerto concerts and two recitals in late September and early October of 1958 (liner notes to BIS CD-323/324). This Haydn sonata comes from a recital of October 5th. There must have been more, but only this Haydn sonata was released from that recital. Gould turns in a note-perfect rendition, allowing himself to linger a little in the trio textures of the Rondo. His tempi are a trifle slower in the first two movements than in Vancouver earlier in the same year. Gould recorded this sonata twice for Columbia, in addition to the two live recordings.
