Unsafe Act or Unsafe Condition? You Decide! As a Safety Coordinator, it’s easy to walk into a situation, see something wrong, and immediately point to the employee. But what if there’s more to the story? In this video, I break down the difference between unsafe acts and unsafe conditions and explain why a good Safety Coordinator needs to look beyond what is happening on the surface. I share a real example from about a year ago involving an employee working in a trench with a shovel that had black tape covering cracks in the handle. What looked like a simple unsafe act turned out to reveal a much bigger safety issue.
