BACTO REALITY | What Happens When Science Meets Art? — SUSART Documentary

What happens when science meets art, and knowledge becomes something we can experience with our whole body? BACTO REALITY is a documentary about the first pilot project of SUSART (Sustainability + Art), an interdisciplinary initiative exploring new ways of understanding, experiencing and communicating complex sustainability challenges. In 2024–2025, eight students from scientific and artistic backgrounds came together in Zurich, Switzerland, to embark on an experimental creative journey. Through movement, embodied learning, improvisation and artistic collaboration, they explored how different disciplines can connect, challenge one another and create new perspectives. The process culminated in Bacto Reality, an original performance premiered at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). But this documentary is about more than the final performance. It is about the people, encounters, uncertainties and discoveries behind the creative process. Can art and science together change the way we learn, collaborate and engage with sustainability? This is the question at the heart of SUSART. SUSART brings together art, science and embodied learning to explore how sustainability education can move beyond information towards meaningful experience, connection and action.
