One of the most interesting things about Double Falls is that it is officially listed at about 178 feet, making it slightly taller than the park’s famous South Falls at 177 feet. It is also a two-tiered waterfall, which is why it is called Double Falls, and it appears along the Winter Falls Loop portion of the Trail of Ten Falls. Unlike some of the larger and more dramatic falls in the park, Double Falls can become noticeably lighter during drier periods, revealing more of the dark basalt and mossy rock face behind the water. The Trail of Ten Falls itself passes above, behind, and around ten waterfalls through a deeply forested canyon, while Double Falls offers one of the more secluded and delicate-looking scenes along the route.
