Every cute League of Legends skin release seems to create the same competition: women bragging that a man gifted them the skin and suggesting anyone who bought it themselves must be undesirable. Receiving a skin is harmless, but turning the gift into a relationship test is not. In this video I take a look at the "if he wanted to, he would" culture surrounding League skins, self-infantilisation, male attention as social status, expectations that boyfriends must spend money to the point where gifting can become transactional or exploitative.
