In this full-length documentary, we explore the monumental legacy of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, a place where royalty, mythology, warfare, and artistry converge. 🏛️ HISTORY & LEGEND OF SIGIRIYA Sigiriya (Sinhala: සීගිරිය), also known as the Lion Rock, was constructed in the 5th century AD by King Kashyapa I, who transformed this natural rock into a fortress-palace following a dramatic royal coup. After usurping the throne from his father King Dhatusena by assassination, Kashyapa feared retribution from his half-brother Moggallana, the rightful heir. In an audacious move, he relocated the capital from Anuradhapura to the central plains and built an impenetrable palace on top of a 200-meter rock, complete with water gardens, frescoes, moats, and advanced urban planning. Yet, Sigiriya was more than just a fortress — it was a statement of power and divine kingship. The entrance to the summit once passed through a colossal Lion-shaped gateway, giving the rock its iconic name.
