There have been lots of complaints about it being too slow but people who build things know that you have to do a lot of preliminary work before you can start doing the visible things. A lot of the preparation for this road is under the road, on the side of the road, and things that are not visible. Today we're seeing the visible part of the road." 11. Wide shot road and workforce STORYLINE: A new project by a Turkish construction company is building a modern road that will link the Afghan cities of Kabul and Kandahar. The US Ambassador to Afghanistan, Doctor Robert Finn, the Afghan Minister of Public Works, Mr Abdullah Ali, and the Turkish Ambassador to Afghanistan, Mr Mufid Yimiz, were at the opening of the construction project in early July. Workers started to build the road in the province of Wardak, roughly an hour's drive from Kabul. The Turkish construction company in charge of the project say they will employ around 380 local people in order to complete the task. They believe that by December 2003 they will have laid down an all weather, Tarmaced highway approximately 400 kilometres (250 miles) long, from Kabul to Kandahar. But they say construction will not be fully completed until October 2004.
