Moraine Lake. Lake Louise. Peyto Lake. Athabasca Glacier. Bow Lake viewpoint, Waterfowl Lake, Saskatchewan River crossing viewpoint, Sunwapta Falls, and a bear on the side of the road. Day 9 of our cross-Canada road trip might be the most jaw-dropping day of the entire journey. We're 12,000 KM into our family road trip with the kids, driving East to West from the Atlantic coast to the Canadian Rockies, and today we drove the legendary Icefields Parkway from Banff National Park into Jasper National Park. 🚗 THE TRIP: 20 days. 8 provinces. 12,000 KM. One family, kids and all. No shortcuts. East to West, one province at a time, and today we crossed into our 7th province. Alberta joined the list. NS → NB → QC → ON → MB → SK → AB 📍 RECAP, DAY 8: Calgary → Banff The Banff Gondola, Sulphur Mountain, downtown Banff and Bow Falls. 📍 DAY 9: Calgary, Alberta → Hinton, Alberta We left Calgary, stopped in Canmore, and took the shuttle to Moraine Lake and Lake Louise, then hit the Icefields Parkway: Bow Lake, the Peyto Lake viewpoint trail, Waterfowl Lakes, the Saskatchewan River Crossing (home of the most scenic and most expensive gas station of the trip), the Weeping Wall, the avalanche zone and Parker Ridge. After crossing into Jasper National Park we stood at the Athabasca Glacier, visited Sunwapta Falls, spotted a bear, and finally rolled into our Airbnb in Hinton. 💡 TRAVEL TIPS FROM THIS EPISODE: Moraine Lake is shuttle-access only for visitors, so plan ahead and book your shuttle. Fill up your tank before the Icefields Parkway. Fuel stops are very limited and expensive. Wildlife safety: stay in your vehicle and keep at least 100 m from bears. This isn't just a road trip.
