Hello everyone! Celebrating 10 years of my channel, I wanted to revisit a song that marked the beginning of my journey: Roads, by Portishead. Singing Beth Gibbons has always fascinated me. Her vocal lines require very precise breath control, delicate vocal placement and the ability to sustain long phrases in very soft dynamics. Beyond the technique, this is, to me, one of the saddest songs ever written. There is a deep sense of pain in this music, and conveying that emotion is an essential part of interpreting it. Revisiting this song a decade later made me realize how much both technique and emotional expression evolve with time. It’s the same song, just with 10 years of learning.
