BIR AS biomethane plant in Voss, Bergen area, Norway 2026.

Biogas plant in Voss, Norway produces 100% renewable energy, biomethane, for transportation and industrial use. Energy is produced from food waste and cattle manure, to replace fossil fuel and natural gas. In 2026, this state-of-the-art biomethane plant was handed over by Biovoima to the facility owner BIR AS, which is one of Norway's largest waste management companies, serving nearly 400 000 residents across seven municipalities in the Bergen region. BIR´s plant processes 54 000 tons of organic material per year - food waste from the region and cattle manure from local farms. The produced biogas is upgraded to 26 Gigawatt-hours of high-quality biomethane annually.
